Privacy Policy

Last updated: 16 July 2026

This policy describes how PlantGeekz handles personal data, both on the website and in the app. We process as little data as possible, and you can use most features without an account.

Data controller

PlantGeekz is run by Rasmus Hurup Hansen. If you have questions about how your data is handled, write to rasmus@huruphansen.dk.

What data we process

On the website. We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used (which pages are visited, approximate location from IP address, browser and device). This happens via cookies and only after you have given consent. The statistics are used solely to improve the site.

In the app. If you create an account, we process your email address. When you look up plants or upload photos, we process those photos and the information you add yourself, in order to identify and display the species. Your collection and wishlist are private until you actively choose to share a plant. If you do share, only a place type is shown (for example “living room” or “greenhouse”), never your address or location.

We do not collect your precise location, and lookups in the app are not linked to marketing.

We process the data to provide and improve the service. The legal basis is your consent (statistics/cookies) and the performance of the agreement to provide the app’s features when you have an account.

Sharing with third parties

  • Google (Analytics) processes statistics on our behalf.
  • Hosting provider / CDN provides the technical operation.
  • Taxonomic data comes from public sources such as GBIF and IUCN and does not contain your personal data.

We never sell your data.

Retention

Account data is kept for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise the associated data, unless we are legally required to keep it. Statistics are kept in aggregated form.

Your rights

You have the right of access to, rectification and erasure of your data, to restrict or object to the processing, and to data portability. If you have given consent, you can withdraw it at any time. You may lodge a complaint with the Danish Data Protection Agency (Datatilsynet) if you believe we are handling your data incorrectly.

Cookies

The website uses cookies for statistics (Google Analytics). They are set only after you have given consent, and you can change your choice at any time.

Changes

We update this policy as the service changes. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
